The introduction to DBT that we did gave me some additional tools to work with which complement my meditation practice very nicely. Basically, DBT provides soothing and coping mechanisms, in addition to practicing awareness to inform you that triggering factors are present. Meditation has helped me tremendously, in my being aware of my mental state, and while I strive to nip that kind of thing in the bud, before the chemical cascade takes over, DBT skills fit right into that space. It’s like a toolbox of behaviors that interrupt that storm.
