About Me

Choosing a therapist is an important decision. This page offers a closer look at my background, the approach I take in therapy, and the kinds of clients I work with.

DR. MATTHEW G. MANDELBAUM

Licensed Psychologist

PhD, MSEd, MA

Over 20 Years Of Experience

For more than twenty years, I have worked with thoughtful, intelligent individuals who want to live more balanced and meaningful lives. Many of my clients are professionals in fields such as business, technology, healthcare, education, and the arts. I also work with university students and emerging adults who are navigating important life transitions.

On the outside, many of the people I work with appear successful and capable. Internally, however, they may feel overwhelmed by stress, stuck in repeating patterns, or uncertain about how to move forward in ways that feel authentic and fulfilling.

My goal is to help you better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and develop practical skills that support the life you want to build.

MY POINT OF VIEW

Experience and Reach

After more than two decades living and practicing in New York City, I now reside in Connecticut and work with clients throughout New York, Connecticut, Florida, and PSYPACT participating states.

My work has focused on helping highly sensitive and high-achieving individuals develop practical skills for navigating life’s challenges.

Client Focus

Many of the people I work with are accomplished in their professional lives but feel stuck emotionally or relationally. Some have experienced trauma, while others feel overwhelmed by expectations, stress, or major life transitions.

My work helps clients regain a sense of autonomy, confidence, and direction so they can move forward in ways that align with their values.

The DBT Approach

Dialectical Behavior Therapy focuses on developing practical life skills that support emotional regulation, resilience, and healthy relationships.

By strengthening these skills, clients often become more reflective, independent, and capable of navigating difficult situations with greater confidence.

Empowerment and Transformation

My goal is to help clients build the skills they need so that therapy becomes a temporary support rather than a lifelong dependency.

Over time, clients develop the ability to navigate challenges with greater resilience, clarity, and independence.
